When loading comments, the default sort for readers is always set to 'sort by relevance'. We made this choice to encourage reviewers to write things that interest readers instead of taking advantage of the automatic visibility that sorting chronologically gives.
In addition, the number of readers is 15 times greater than the number of commentators, so it is better to favor the latter in order to give a good image of your community. Indeed, the trolls always benefit from posting the first on an article knowing that they will be seen by all, or to come and spam the discussion thread knowing that they will go up in the pile. However, this rule is only valid for readers who do not yet have a connected account.
Indeed, all the users who are connected have a choice in the settings of their preferences to force the sorting by 'most recent' or 'oldest'.
To do this, just go to "Settings" and select the default sorting setting that suits you. Therefore, on each load, this sorting will be applied to all the pages by default for this user.
